TMJ Treatment
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints and refers to the joints that connect your lower jawbone to your skull. You use these joints any time you open or close your mouth, and if these joints become overused, it can result in a temporomandibular disorder, or TMD.
You may be suffering from a TMD if you experience:
- Frequent chronic headaches
- Jaw pain
- Soreness in the jaw joints
- Difficulty chewing or moving your mouth
- Ringing ears
- A clicking or popping noise when the jaw moves
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may want to come into our office for diagnosis and treatment.
TMJ Treatment
After you are diagnosed with a TMJ issue, we will work with you to develop the perfect TMJ treatment plan that will heal your jaw joints and help prevent the issue from occurring again. At our practice, how we treat TMDs is dependent on the patient and the cause of his/her disorder. By locating the source of the TMD, we can determine the best treatment course and work to alleviate every TMD symptom. Each case is unique, and we tailor each TMJ treatment to each patient’s individual needs. In many cases, TMJ issues are caused by bruxism, or teeth grinding. In these cases, your dentist would help you avoid grinding your teeth while you sleep by treating your TMD with a special dental appliance. In other cases, jaw therapy or other TMJ practices may be employed.
To find out whether or not you can benefit from TMJ treatment, call us at our office today. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have or to arrange a consultation with your dentist. We also offer treatment for other occlusal disorders or misalignment issues.
